Entry 8: Becoming an Abettor

Entry 8: Becoming an Abettor

Up to this point this website has served as a gallery and blog for myself. Anyone who comes across this website are most likely friends and acquaintances that I know through Facebook, which is fine in itself. I would love to potentially outsource myself, aside from showcasing art, but would I have to think of the entirety of the website before I start to consider offering other resources. The real question arises when I think, “what do I have to offer that is a benefit to others?” Can I offer tutorials or seminars? What about inspirational or motivational ideas? Well, at this point I am still managing my time with my website and personal projects, so I have to reconsider how I can help others while still keeping busy with my own schedule.

Then I came up with the idea of looking in a thesaurus for words that were similar to “assisting.” Several words seemed to match my line of thinking, while others were humorously not quite right (i.e. partner-in-crime). I finally found a word that I decided to settle on: abettor (uh-bet-er). The definition for abettor is one who abets (that’s the answer I got, which made me laugh). The definition of abet is to assist, encourage, inspire, or motivate, so the definition for abettor is a person who does such things to help others. This word eventually spawned a new category for my website, which its name is derived from.

The Abettor menu showcases helpful websites and links that inspire creativity. I use most of these resources extensively, and many of them are daily reminders to help motivate imagination, creativity, and the pursuit to learn more. So have at it, visit these websites with a willing mind and you’ll be able to expand your knowledge with these neat resources. If you feel like you may have a website or resource that I have not mentioned, feel free to leave it in the comments.

As always, thanks for reading and please leave comments and feedback; they are greatly appreciated! Today I am at Kentucky Crafted: The Market, and I have talked to many artists about their craft and I have posted a few of their artworks on Twitter, so check that out to see some cool art. I'll also publish the Abettor page this weekend because KY Crafted didn't have Wi-Fi for me to finalize that page, so stay tuned!
