Entry 98: Dream Hunter
The other day I had a vivid dream that involved my best friend (to whom I shall call "my bestie"), a monster, henchmen, and the Mother of Wolves.
In the dream, I was in an arid field surrounded by a 10-ft tall chain link fence that was covered in dried-up vines. To my recollection, the area was a part of Texas, but the field was new to me. A bunch of tourists were looking at the tiger that was on the other side of the fence, which attacked the fence every time they approached.
I decided that this zoo was dangerous, so I went into a forest at dusk with my bestie to shoot each other with pistols. The scene was now in Kentucky, somewhere that we used to live nearby. Before we were going to shoot at each other, we had to move deeper into the forest so we wouldn't accidentally shoot the neighbors if we missed each other. We walked about 100 feet into the forest, and as we took aim at each other, I began to feel unease, as if something else was watching us...
I called out to my bestie, and I told him that it might be dangerous to shoot at each other this late in the day, because dangerous creatures might be awaking. Just as I warned him, I saw something in the clearing near him. It looked like a mountain lion, but as time slowed down, I realized it was a gigantic wolf. It slowly looked at us, and we began to run in slow motion. My bestie ran faster than I could, and just as I thought the wolf was going to get us, we made it into the safe house.
Earlier in that day, I was at Home Depot looking for something, possibly lumber to fortify the safe house. As I was leaving the store, I said hello to a couple of passing ladies, and they stopped to talk with me. I invited them to watch a horror movie at our safe house, and they agreed.
Fast forward to the evening when the wolf was chasing us, the ladies were waiting in the safe house and began to watch the horror film. The sun had set, and the wolf was trying to break into the safe house, which made the film even more terrifying. I had my pistol, but I was going to need backup from my bestie.
I walked down the hallway to his room, and I was quiet because I thought he was sleeping with his wife. I knocked on the door, he woke up, and it turns out that he was sleeping alone. We both got our pistols and we had to move the couch that the ladies were using to watch the movie. We repositioned the couch to take cover, and the wolf had almost broken into our safe house.
It also turns out that the wolf was a hideous monster in disguise, which made it easier to shoot. After we killed the monster, we cut its head off and took it into the forest. Once I was deep in the forest, a building-size wolf jumped from behind the trees and stood over me. The wolf told me that she was the Mother of Wolves, and she thanked me for killing the impersonating monster. As a reward, she gave me a crimson piece of paper with a red dot on the bottom, which represented the Gift from the Mother of Wolves.
I took the red paper and took shelter in a house in our neighbor hood. I was searching around the house for ammo for the hunting rifles I had found to defend us from another monster attack. This time, there were other people with me looking for protection as well, but as the morning light came, we knew we were safe.
My bestie and I, along with a few other guys, hopped into a red convertible that had its top down. We were laughing and enjoying ourselves, but then time began to slow down and I noticed a bunch of henchmen approaching our vehicle from all sides, with guns. As they all circled our car, one of them unloaded two shotgun rounds into one of the passenger's stomach, mortally wounding him.
One of the henchmen said that my bestie was in good standing with the mafia because he already returned the money he had borrowed from them, with interest. The passenger who was shot, however, never paid back the money, so he had to be killed. The henchman pointed the shotgun at the wounded passenger, right in the back of the head, towards the dashboard so he wouldn't injure anyone else, and then he pulled the trigger.
I was later running in a savannah at dusk, and the light was dimming fast and the red sky was beginning to turn black. As the tribesmen captured me, I showed them my note from the Mother of Wolves, and they accepted me as their friend.
And this was my dream.
