Entry 169: Center of Attention
Whenever I update my résumé and I have to describe an example of multitasking that I can perform, well, now my job has taken the cake.
Here at Amazon I deal with packages, oodles of packages. And during my early days at this job I was trained with effectively handling any issues and logistical concerns that may arise with any package, whether it was shipped to the wrong place or the attempted business was closed for the day. Fast forward several months and now I'm one of the overseers for Amazon Same Day.
The basic concept is simple: divide packages for the drivers quickly so they can deliver on time. During the past week, our number of packages nearly doubled for this department, and as overseer, everyone looks up to me for guidance and direction, in addition to the usual problem solving that I am trained with. Yet with nearly a dozen people calling out my name for assistance, it can be a little overwhelming to prioritize any one issue.
Just a little.
I have been complimented by my coworkers for my calm demeanor during this chaotic shift, and frankly I enjoy the challenge of solving this ever-evolving puzzle that is laid before me. I am most thankful that I fully understand the logistics of how this program works, otherwise I would have never signed up for something as crazy as this.
